PROJECT BENEFITS TO THE REGION
Description of the Project
Discovery Bay Resort & Marina will be mixed use residential,, commercial, nautical tourism village development located between the city and towns of Aguadilla and Aguada at Puerto Rico’s northwest corner.
The development will include the following amenities:
- A world class, state-of-the art marina with 500 floating dock slips for vessels of up to 180 feet length, a complete, full service dry dock and repair yard for vessels up to 75 feet in length, and a dry-stack facility for 500 vessels.
- A total 0f 737 residential units (apartments, town homes and condominiums)
- A hotel complex and Marina Village with 330 rooms, comprised of 160 hotel rooms and 170 fractional ownership units, and/or residence hotel units and/or “condo hotel” units; a casino, spa, conference center, beach club, heli-pad, pools, restaurants and commercial entertainment areas for visitors, residents, tourists, marina owners and their guests.
- Golf and horseback riding nearby.
Projects Benefits to the Region
- A world class residential resort community with a first-class nautical tourism facility at the crossroads of the Spanish Caribbean where some of the finest fishing, diving, sailing and surfing grounds are located. The development will provide to Puerto Rico’s west/northwest coast a full service, first-class marina complex and a commercial waterfront plaza. Currently, the region has limited sport fishing, sailing and nautical tourism facilities.
- The development is located approximately eight miles south of Aguadilla’s Rafael Hernández International Airport, which provides direct service to major US northeastern and southeastern coast cities.
- Puerto Rico’s new frontier, the Porta Del Sol west coast region is renowned fro great surfing, fishing, scuba diving, sailing, horseback and bicycle running, beautiful beaches, breathtaking sunsets, fabulous whale watching, access to golf courses, cultural tourism, agro-tourism and ecotourism.
- As US port of entry, US passports are not required. Residents and guests receive direct US mail and cellular service, excellent provisioning facilities with overnight Fedex and US Express mail service from the US, and economical fuel process, in comparison to other islands in the region.
- The development will include a direct access road to the City of Aguadilla, Columbus Park, Aguadilla Harbor and State road #2 in a southerly direction. An exercise and bicycle path will be and additional amenity.
- The development will create approximately 1,500 direct and indirect jobs. And provide a flood control social development project that protects the life and property of 3,200 residents of adjoining communities.
